I have been in private practice since 2008. I moved to New Orleans from Chicago in 1995 for residency training in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry at Tulane. I especially loved working Charity and the VA. I fell in love with this city. Since I finished training in 2000, I have had several jobs. I was the medical director of the inpatient psychiatric unit at St. Charles Parish Hospital in Luling for fifteen years. I was the jail doctor for the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center in St. Charles Parish for several years. I supervised medical students and residents on the third floor of Charity Hospital. I was a PTSD doctor at the VA from 2003-2007. After Katrina hit, I saw patients in a Wal-Mart parking lot, in my car, in a closet and barroom at the VFW hall in LaPlace. Eventually I got access to a FEMA trailer and a WWII vet I cared for graciously gave me two plastic pink flamingos to stick out front of it. My time at the VA taught me the limits of medications, and showed me that I needed more training in talk therapy. So in 2007 I began training at the New Orleans-Birmingham Psychoanalytic Center. This type of training is probably the most intense and extensive training you can get in talk therapy. During my training I opened a private practice, while still running a very busy inpatient psychiatric unit.
In 2015 I began working in my private practice full-time. Although I have extensive experience in the use of psychotropic medication, I recognize that medication has limitations. I use medications as tools - if needed - to keep my clients well enough to do the serious but meaningful work of talk therapy (if they are interested). If however you are feeling is causing disorder in love, life, and work, then I might be able to help you. Please call 504-487-9446 if you wish to schedule an appointment.
